Project: Bird and Bat Waste Abatement
Robertson County Court House
Client: Robertson County
Springfield, Tennessee
Summary: This project required the removal of large amounts of bird and bat feces,
feces-impacted debris, removal of bird and bat carcasses, cleaning of all horizontal and vertical surfaces from the attic and bell tower of the Springfield Court House.
The challenge of this project was to protect the “abatement team” and the administrative staff, workers and public from the potential of exposure to infectious spores and micro-organisms inherent in bird and bat feces (a breeding ground for histoplasmosis and cryptococcus) during the abatement activities. Because of that fact, the project was conducted during the weekend when the area could be regulated to prevent entry while abatement activities were being conducted.
Due to the height of the attic and bell tower, access was limited to entry from roof openings. FRI utilized a 120’ man lift to transport personnel, materials and equipment to the work area. A Guzzler (super sucker) was employed to perform the removal of waste. Upon completion of the project the waste was transported to an approved disposal facility.
The project was completed ahead of schedule and under budget with the savings being passed along to our client, Robertson County.
