Hazardous Waste Project Profile 1

Project:  Confined-Space Mercury Collection, Mercury Vapor Testing

Client:  Large Fuel Storage Complex, Nashville, Tennessee

Summary:  This project called for the removal of a sizeable amount of mercury from inside of east and west “pontoon” platform supports within a huge fuel storage tank in Nashville, Tennessee.

The challenge of this project was (3) phase: the entry into an extremely restricted crawlspaces, location and removal of the mercury covered by years of oxidation, rust, and dust, and the mercury vapor testing of the pontoons to document the successful mercury collection by the First Response team

FRI personnel deployed mercury vacuum equipment to successfully extract the mercury from the pontoons for proper handling by the client. The east and west pontoons were tested to verify that no mercury vapors were present inside.
